  • 13. Ask the doctor. A heart attack caused me to develop heart rhythm problems. These made it necessary for me to get an implantable cardioventer/defibrillator (ICD) that can shock my heart back to a normal rhythm. My medical story is a lot like Vice President Dick Cheney's, but my social situation isn't--I don't have anyone to drive me around. My doctor doesn't want me to drive. But depending on friends and family is a major problem, and we don't live near public transportation. Any suggestions?
