  • 1. Ask the doctor. I am 95 years old and recently began treatment for early macular degeneration in one eye. My retinologist said that PreserVision might help protect the other eye. But she cautioned that it contains a large dose of vitamin E, which could cause a bleeding problem with the Coumadin I take because of a mechanical aortic valve. What would you suggest?

  • 3. Ask the doctor. Sometime soon I will need to have my aortic valve replaced. I like the fact that mechanical valves last longer than biological valves, but I don't like the fact that they require you to take the blood thinner Coumadin to prevent blood clots. I have heard that one of the new mechanical valves won't require Coumadin, just aspirin. Is that so?
