  • 1. On call. I am a 78-year-old man with two medical problems, an enlarged prostate and cataracts. I take Flomax for my prostate with good results, but I've been told that it can cause complications during cataract surgery. Should I stop taking Flomax before I have surgery--and if so, what should I do about my prostate?

  • 2. On call. I'm a 76-year-old man with an enlarged prostate. I've been taking Cardura and it's helped a lot, but my doctor stopped it because he said a study found the drug could cause heart failure. Now I'm getting up three or four times a night again. Is Cadura safe?

  • 3. On call. I am 76 years old, and I've had an enlarged prostate for at least 10 years. I've been taking Proscar for about a year, and it seems to be helping quite a bit. I have not noticed any side effects, but I'm worried that if the medicine reduces testosterone levels enough to shrink my prostate, it will also give me osteoporosis. Should I change medications, or take Fosamax like my wife?
