  • 1. I have a friend who was diagnosed with aortic valve stenosis, caused by calcium forming on the valve. I've heard that the condition can also be caused by rheumatic fever, which I had as a child almost 50 years ago. What exactly is aortic valve stenosis, and am I still at risk after all these years (I take medication for cholesterol and arthritis, but am otherwise pretty healthy)?
