  • 10. I am a woman in my early 60s and I have osteopenia, for which my doctor prescribed four Citracal caplets with vitamin D every day. This provides 800 international units (IU) of vitamin D. I get another 266 IU of vitamin D from a daily multivitamin and mineral supplement. I read recently that people who don't get 15 minutes of sunlight every day should probably take 4,000 IU of D daily. But that is twice the safe upper limit of 2,000 IU. What are the dangers of taking 4,000 IU daily? Are there side effects and warning signs that you're taking too much? What amount would you recommend?

He wants me to stop Zocor for a while, but I'm worried about my heart. Is it safe for me to stop?
