    Author: Peresh IeIe.
Journal: Lik Sprava; 1998; (7):107-11. PubMed ID: 10050475.
    Abstract:
The paper focuses on the treatment of 461 elderly and old patients presenting with bleeding gastroduodenal ulcer. According to classification for the patients in this age bracket, 117 subject (25.4%) had "senile", 344 (74.6%) neglected ulcer. The results obtained showed that among acutely bleeding "senile" ulcers gastric location was most common while neglected ulcers had predominantly duodenal localization, the former being smaller in size and depth, the latter larger. A major proportion of this patient population experienced moderately severe and severe blood losses. 97 patients (21%) were treated by surgery, with the postoperative mortality being 9.3%; 364 patients (79%) received conservative treatment only, 49 (13.5%) persons died. The total mortality was 12.6%.
