    Abstract:
    SamCor is a nonprofit multi-hospital system, based in Arizona which was created by the merger of several hospitals. Faced with a tumultuous environment and the need for capital, SamCor debated the decision whether they should merge with an even larger national investor-owned system. This is a question discussed by nearly every hospital in the country. In the following article the SamCor decision-making process and outcome are frankly described. Their systematic analysis and planning is a model effort.
