  • Title: Can nutrition services affect hospital costs under PPS?
    Author: Smith PE, Smith AE.
Journal: Healthc Financ Manage; 1985 Jul; 39(7):96-100. PubMed ID: 10300177.
    Abstract:
Under PPS, reduced length of stay will be financially advantageous to the hospital; it can positively affect marginal profitability and allow more productive use of existing bed capacity. One possible strategy for reducing length of stay is the use of nutrition services. The medical literature provides clues where nutrition services affect length of stay by reducing the chance of morbidity and mortality in the hospitalized patient.
