    Abstract:
    The Food and Drug Administration contend that there is no evidence to support the notion of serious quality differences between brand name and generic drugs. In contrast, research-intensive pharmaceutical firms believe they produce a product of higher quality than other manufacturers. This paper reviews and critically evaluates the arguments presented by both sides of this issues. Discussed are the 1978 Lilly Report, the 1980 FDA Study, and Block's 1980 Computer Study of FDA Citations.
