Title: Antigenic cross-reactivity between human and marmoset zonase pellucidae, a potential target for immunocontraception. Author: Shivers CA, Gengozian N, Franklin S, McLaughlin CL. Journal: J Med Primatol; 1978; 7(4):242-8. PubMed ID: 105141. Abstract: Cross-reactivity between marmoset, chimpanzee, human and pig zona pellucida antigens was demonstrated by immunofluorescence and zona precipitation. In marmosets, anti-zona antibody prevented sperm attachment to eggs in vitro, and the antibody could be detected on zonae of ovarian oocytes following passive immunization. Use of the marmoset as an animal model in testing feasibility of the zona approach to immunocontraception is discussed. Antigenic cross-reactivity between marmoset, human, chimpanzee, and pig zonae pellucidae was demonstrated in this pilot study. In vitro blocking of sperm attachment to marmoset ova using anti-zona antibodies and the localizing of anti-human zona antibodies on marmoset eggs after passive immunization are also reported. The use of the marmoset as an animal model in testing feasiblity of the zona approach to immunocontraception is discussed, and further projects are called for.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
