    Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: To report a case of nospecific granulomatous prostatitis. METHODS: A 57-year-old male presented with urinary symptoms (pollakiuria and dysuria), but no fever. On physical examination, the prostate was enlarged and indurated. Urine cultures were negative and blood PSA was slightly elevated. The patient had no previous history of surgery. RESULTS: The histopathological analysis showed granulomatous prostatitis with prominent epithelioid histiocytes. Abundant calculi were also found. The special techniques were negative for fungi and BAAR. No evidence of neoplasm was found. CONCLUSION: Granulomatous prostatitis can mimick a carcinoma, clinically and even histologically, particularly in those cases with prominent epithelioid histiocytes.
