    Abstract:
    Described for the first time in Ukraine are eleven cases of encephalitis caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV) in adults. Characteristic features of clinical presentation, laboratory and instrumental methods of investigation are presented with special emphasis being placed on predominant location of the pathological process in CMV encephalitis such as frequently encountered affection of the white substance of the brain predominantly in the paraventricular zones, significant intracranial liquor hypertension. Etiotropic treatment is to be prescribed in CMV encephalitis with gancyclovir (cymeven Roche) in the earliest periods of the course of the disease.
