Abstract: As the October 1, 2000, implementation date for the home health prospective payment system approaches, healthcare organizations that include a home health component need to decide whether they will continue offering home health services, and if so, how to ensure that these services are profitable. To determine which services should be continued, these organizations need to analyze each home health business line in terms of utilization and profitability, comparing performance under cost-based payment with projected performance under prospective payment.
