Title: [Datura stramonium poisoning]. Author: Castañón López L, Martínez Badás JP, Lapeña López De Armentia S, Gómez Mora J, García Arias ML. Journal: An Esp Pediatr; 2000 Jul; 53(1):53-5. PubMed ID: 10998405. Abstract: Datura stramonium is a hallucinogenic plant, widely distributed and easily accessible, which contains toxic anticholinergic alkaloids. Voluntary or accidental ingestion can produce serious illness or death. The clinical presentation is similar to that seen in cases of atropine poisoning. Signs and symptoms such as mydriasis, tachycardia, arrhythmias, agitation, seizures and coma can appear. Diagnosis is clinical and early treatment should be given, including gastrointestinal decontamination, supportive care and physostigmine in life-threatening cases. Prognosis is usually favorable.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
