Title: Vitamin E and atherosclerosis: beyond prevention of LDL oxidation. Author: Meydani M. Journal: J Nutr; 2001 Feb; 131(2):366S-8S. PubMed ID: 11160562. Abstract: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial wall. Observational and experimental studies indicate that dietary vitamin E supplementation is associated with reduced risk of atherosclerosis. Evidence indicates that vitamin E, in addition to inhibition of oxidative modification of LDL, may inhibit atherogenesis through several other mechanisms at the molecular and cellular levels, which also include its nonantioxidant functions.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
