  • Title: The growing shadow of tuberculosis.
    Author: Nary G.
Journal: J Int Assoc Physicians AIDS Care; 1995 Apr; 1(3):26-7. PubMed ID: 11362486.
    Abstract:
A new global tuberculosis pandemic has arisen that is expected to become the leading cause of death in people with AIDS by the year 2000. The surge in tuberculosis cases has been linked to co-infection with HIV, new epidemics in Eastern Europe, drug-resistant strains, inadequate treatment regimens, lack of compliance by patients, and inadequate funding for prevention and treatment programs. Each of these linkages and the steps being taken to control this pandemic, including administration of multiple drugs, combination drug products, and greater patient supervision by health care workers, are discussed.
