  • Title: Immune improvement in an HIV-infected man.
Journal: AIDS Clin Care; 1996 Jul; 8(7):56, 62. PubMed ID: 11363602.
    Abstract:
A case history is presented of a patient who has positively responded to Bactrim treatment. His viral load test results indicate that he no longer needs to take Bactrim. However, there are questions about how accurate surrogate marker measurements are. Evidence suggests CD4 count measurements alone may not be completely sufficient predictors of clinical events. Viral load is becoming known as a better independent predictor; others will follow. In the meantime, it is argued that prudence play a part in deciding therapy alterations or discontinuances in the face of increasing CD4 counts.
