  • Title: AIDS information on the Internet (Part 2): Critical Path Internet services.
    Author: Bauer R.
Journal: Crit Path AIDS Proj; 1996; (No 31):27-30. PubMed ID: 11363830.
    Abstract:
World Wide Web technology on the Internet provides a cost-effective means for reaching AIDS service providers and researchers across the world. It provides a means for obtaining and disseminating information worldwide in a time-sensitive environment. However, because of cost restrictions, many underserved communities have not been able to tap into this resource. Thus, Critical Path AIDS Project has developed its own infrastructure for accessing this vast information highway. Critical Path AIDS Project has created a service that provides access through their own organization as an Internet service provider, networking software to connect to the Internet, and offering applications programs for accessing resources on remote computers. The service is free of charge to individuals in the Philadelphia region so as to reach the underserved communities who also require HIV/AIDS information and resources. The services include direct Internet access, remote login access, file transfer, resource location, electronic mail, mailing lists, Usenet News, conferencing, and access to the World Wide Web.
