    Abstract:
    A National Institutes of Health (NIH) panel is expected to recommend further study of the use of marijuana in treating wasting syndrome, relieving neuropathic pain, and managing spasticity and other movement disorders that afflict AIDS patients. Research goals would be to determine whether marijuana increases total energy intake, whether resting metabolic rates go up, and whether activity levels rise. Marijuana has long been linked anecdotally with effectiveness in controlling wasting syndrome.
