  • Title: President selects Thurman to oversee national AIDS policy.
    Journal: AIDS Policy Law; 1997 Apr 18; 12(7):1, 10. PubMed ID: 11364227.
    Abstract:
President Bill Clinton appointed Sandra L. Thurman as the nation's new AIDS policy director. This will be the Clinton administration's third such director in 45 months. Thurman was the executive director of AID Atlanta, and the director of advocacy programs at the Task Force for Child Survival and Development at the Carter Center in Atlanta. Thurman has been a member of the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS since its 1995 inception. AIDS advocates have expressed mixed reactions to the Thurman appointment. Some organizations wanted a more high-profile political figure who would command attention and respect in Congress.
