  • Title: CDC guidance expected for high-risk sexual exposure. Centers for Disease Control and Infection.
Journal: AIDS Alert; 1997 Jul; 12(7):75-7. PubMed ID: 11364395.
    Abstract:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is expected to issue recommendations for prophylactic treatment for health care workers exposed to HIV on the job. The post-exposure protocol will include a three-drug regimen for severe exposures, and it is likely that newer drugs, such as nelfinavir, will be included in the guidelines. These aggressive treatments may lead to similar guidelines for other high-risk exposures, such as people exposed through rape or through unprotected sex with infected partners. Monotherapy is never an acceptable prophylactic treatment.
