Title: Low CD4 count is predictor of TB in patients with HIV. Journal: AIDS Alert; 1997 Dec; 12(12):140-1. PubMed ID: 11364834. Abstract: A recent study shows that low CD4 counts are associated with atypical presentations of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Chest x-rays are an important tool in diagnosing TB in HIV-positive patients. Chest x-rays in patients with high CD4 counts resemble those of reactivation TB in HIV-negative adults. The physical differences that appear in the x-rays of patients with primary or recurrent infections are described. Pulmonary TB can exist in HIV-positive patients even if the X-ray is normal. There is speculation that viral load testing may also prove to be a predictor of cavitary disease.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
