Abstract: The state of resource availability and allocation to combat HIV/AIDS epidemics in poor countries, particularly within the African continent, is addressed. In a presentation at IAPAC's First International Conference on Healthcare Resource Allocation for HIV/AIDS and Other Life-Threatening Illnesses, Dr. Hoosen M. Coovadia presented ways for non-governmental organizations, via partnerships linking government with the private sector, to have a positive impact in this war. The unique challenges that Africa faces to combat the AIDS epidemic as well as some progress are highlighted.
