  • Title: Cost of managed HIV care remains stable, study says.
Journal: AIDS Policy Law; 1998 Oct 16; 13(19):15. PubMed ID: 11365949.
    Abstract:
A new study by Clinical Partners, Inc. shows that antiretroviral medicines have reduced mortality without boosting health care costs. The group compared the trends of HIV treatment costs of many managed-care plans in California and Texas over several years. During the study period, mortality dropped from 5 percent per quarter to less than 1 percent. The monthly cost of treating an HIV-positive patient over the 3-year period dropped to a consistent $1,300/month. This reduction in mortality and in monthly costs coincides with the introduction of combination drug therapy.
