  • Title: Insurance claims due to AIDS plummet to 1988 levels.
Journal: AIDS Policy Law; 1998 Oct 16; 13(19):4. PubMed ID: 11365952.
    Abstract:
HIV-related life and health insurance claims have dropped to the lowest level in a decade according to a study by the American Council of Life Insurance and the Health Insurance Association of America. Claims peaked in 1994 and have dropped 39 percent in the 3 years since then. Several factors may have contributed to the decline. The use of protease inhibitors has kept patients healthier longer. Also, populations affected by HIV are increasingly poor or are in high-risk groups which generally do not have private insurance. In addition, managed care programs, which are common in employer-sponsored insurance plans, have found innovative ways to drive down costs.
