  • Title: CDC recommends all States make anonymous HIV testing available. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Journal: AIDS Alert; 1999 Jan; 14(1):1-3. PubMed ID: 11366086.
    Abstract:
Unless prohibited by State law, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended that all States make anonymous testing available. The CDC's statement was issued to clarify its position because of conflicting information presented in two published articles. One study, conducted at the University of California at San Francisco, states that anonymous testing is associated with earlier HIV testing and earlier medical care. The study also found that people who had anonymous testing had a longer time between HIV diagnosis and AIDS onset. The other study, conducted by researchers from the CDC, had different indications. This study found that when reporting laws went into effect, there was not a significant decline in the number of people being tested.
