Title: Salvage therapy: still more intuition than data. Author: Gilden D. Journal: GMHC Treat Issues; 1999 Jan; 13(1):6-12. PubMed ID: 11366112. Abstract: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Public Health Services (PHS) branch has published recommendations for salvage therapies as part of its overall guidelines for treating HIV. PHS advises switching therapies for those who show very minor decreases in HIV levels or who rebound to detectable levels while on an established regimen. Studies on salvage therapies are presented. Many researchers disagree over when to abandon current therapy for a salvage regimen, as some believe it might be better not to rush through the available drugs. The benefits of resistance assays are discussed. A list of salvage therapy studies that are being conducted by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group is included.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
