Title: Congress, OSHA finally join fight to mandate needle safety precautions. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Journal: AIDS Alert; 1999 Jul; 14(7):73-4. PubMed ID: 11366415. Abstract: Twenty States are working on legislation that would require health care providers to implement the use of needle safety devices to reduce the risk of transmitting bloodborne diseases. In the U.S., an estimated 590,000 health care worker needlesticks are reported each year. A proposed Federal law would require employers to use improved products to prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens. In addition, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced its plan to reduce the risk of occupational exposure by means such as requiring better record keeping to track these types of injuries. Safer blood collecting devices are described, including price comparisons between conventional and safer products.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
