Title: AIDS patients often have hearing and speech problems. Journal: AIDS Alert; 1999 Aug; 14(8):suppl 1-2. PubMed ID: 11366430. Abstract: HIV-positive people often experience speech, language, and hearing problems. The National Institutes of Health estimates that about 75 percent of adults with AIDS have auditory dysfunction, often caused by opportunistic infections. Common auditory complaints for various HIV-infected populations are described, along with common speech and language disorders. Potential treatments for AIDS-related communications disorders include hearing aids, speech therapy, and language exercises.
