Title: Intravaginal microbicidal gel to be tested. Author: Hanna L. Journal: BETA; 1999 Apr; 12(2):18-9. PubMed ID: 11366685. Abstract: Late-stage laboratory testing will begin for Geda, an experimental microbicide, which is inserted by plunger into the vagina up to four hours before having sex. It contains the active ingredients octoxynol-9 and benzalkonium chloride. Preliminary tests show Geda kills HIV, E. coli, and hepatitis B virus. Another product with the same active ingredients, PrevenTx, is already marketed as a hand wash.
