Title: Safer needles. Journal: AIDS Policy Law; 1999 Sep 17; 14(17):12. PubMed ID: 11366828. Abstract: Anglo-American researchers have developed a new "self-blunting" hypodermic needle to reduce accidental needlestick injuries in health-care facilities. The technology uses hydrophilic polymers that coat the point of the needle once it is used. When the needle is used, the polymers absorb moisture from the injected or surrounding fluid. It's major advantage is that the syringe can be used with conventional syringes, so no special needle retraction mechanism is needed.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
