Title: Salvage therapy for Indinavir and Ritonavir users. Journal: TreatmentUpdate; 1999 Jul 01; 11(5):1-2. PubMed ID: 11366926. Abstract: Drug resistance to protease inhibitors (PIs) often requires patients to resort to entirely different drug combinations, called salvage or rescue therapy. A study at the San Francisco General Hospital compared the effectiveness of two salvage regimens for patients who had used Indinavir or Ritonavir. The most effective combination was Nelfinavir, Saquinavir, abacavir, and Nevirapine. Most of the 20 subjects in the study had not been exposed to these drugs previously. Study details include results on viral loads and drug side effects. In addition, phenotypic testing was used to measure the effectiveness of the treatment and to track viral suppression.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
