Title: [Karl Abraham: family, childhood and youth in Bremen]. Author: Decke B. Journal: Luzif Amor; 1997; 10(20):7-60. PubMed ID: 11625347. Abstract: This article extends and nuances, modifies and discusses points raised in Hilda Abraham's biography of her father. The author uses previously unknown sources from the state archives in Bremen, the Leo Baeck Institute in New York and Mrs. Lottie Levy, Karl Abraham's niece. Aspects of Abraham's family, events in his youth as well as a reminiscence of his youth written by Abraham will be related to the cultural and social history of Bremen and Bremen's Jewish community and to developments in modern German Judaism, especially orthodox Judaism. The author also relates source material to the writings of Karl Abraham, his relationship to women and femininity, to Freud and C.G. Jung and to his activities in the psychoanalytic movement. A childhood letter and an essay written by Abraham as he was finishing school are documented fully.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
