Title: Pea varieties resources in Russia in context to the situation in Western Europe. Author: Gorpintchenko T, Anikanova Z. Journal: Nahrung; 2001 Oct; 45(6):371-3. PubMed ID: 11712232. Abstract: The largest share of legumes grain production in Russia falls at peas and amounts to 75%. The pea is grown practically in all agricultural regions of Russia. The most favourable pea-growing regions are the forest-steppe zone of European part of Russia and Volga region. 84 varieties of pea are being included in the official "National List of the Breeding Achievements Permitted to Use in the Russian Federation" in 2001. 24 of these varieties correspond to the requirements for the most valuable food pea ones. The pea varieties especially suitable for food are identified by a special classification. 32.5% percent of a total area sown with the peas in Europe falls to Russia.
