Title: [Microelectrode-guided posteroventral pallidotomy for Parkinson's disease: clinical study of 100 cases]. Author: Li Y, Iacono R. Journal: Zhonghua Wai Ke Za Zhi; 1998 Oct; 36(10):603-5. PubMed ID: 11825475. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcome of posteroventral pallidotomy (PVP) for Parkinson's disease (PD). METHOD: The data from 100 patients with PD receiving PVP were retrospectively analyzed with UPDRS. RESULT: PVP significantly improved PD symptoms. Several typical symptoms were improved:tremor in 72% patients, rigidity 81%, akinesia 71%, gait 60%, balance 64% and off state 75%. CONCLUSION: PVP improves Parkinsonian symptoms, and is superior to classical thalamotomy.
