Abstract: A recent Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) report announced that the nation's overall rate of growth in healthcare spending rose for the second consecutive year in 2000. The increase occurred in both private and public sectors of the healthcare industry, affecting areas such as prescription drugs, hospitals (including both inpatient and outpatient services), and freestanding nursing homes and home health agencies.
