  • Title: [Comparative clinico-epidemiologic characteristics of affective psychoses and periodic schizophrenia].
    Author: Panicheva EV.
Journal: Zh Nevropatol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova; 1975; 75(4):550-8. PubMed ID: 1210967.
    Abstract:
The author presents the results of an epidemiological study of 274 patients with manic-depressive psychosis and 433 patients with periodic schizophrenia. The study concerns the comparison of syndromal conditions in these diseases and criteria of prognosis. It is stressed that a bipolar development is an unfavorable prognostical sign in both disorders. The prognosis is especially poor if manic states appear at the earlier stages of the disorder. The probability of a more severe development of manic-depressive psychosis and periodic schizophrenia is higher in males than in females.
