  • Title: [Clinico-pathogenetic features of cerebral cysticercosis accompanied by mental disorders].
    Author: Kuznetsov MT.
Journal: Zh Nevropatol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova; 1975; 75(7):994-1000. PubMed ID: 1210993.
    Abstract:
On the basis of a study of 32 cases of brain cysticerrcosis with mental disturbances the author proposes a classification of these disorders. The classification provides an assessment of the stages in the development of the disease, the localization of the morbid process, the type ot development and the symptomatology of the disease. The authors distinguish the following stages of the morbid process: the penetration of the parasite (lasting 3-4 months); an exotoxicosis (excretion into the brain products of metabolism, lasting for 5-10 years); an exotoxicosis (excretion into the brain products of desintegration of the dying parasite, ensues after 5-10 years); residual. The clinical types of development according to the author are the following: primary-hypertoxic rapidly leading to a lethal outcome; progressive-remittent; chronic-progressive. The highest lethality falls on the 1st decade of the diseases.
