  • Title: Counselling in the German Democratic Republic.
    Author: Aresin L.
Journal: IPPF Eur Reg Inf; 1979 Jul; 8(3):1. PubMed ID: 12178351.
    Abstract:
Over 200 marriage and sexual counselling centers are integrated intthe National Health Service in the German Democratic Republic. Most of the staff in these centers are members of the family planning association, Ehe und Familie, and are trained in counselling. Counselling in partnership conflicts, sexual problems, sex education of children and adolescents, and planned parenthood services are free at each center. Sexological advice is available only in urban areas now, but increased interest in peripheral areas has led to plans for expansion. Sex counselling is more time consuming than contraceptive counselling. If the treatment given seems insufficient the patient is referred to psychotherapeutic institutions. In some towns, divorce courts request couples to visit a counselling center before making a decision in cases where sexual problems have been identified as the cause for divorce.
