Title: Hazard of vaginal delivery after two previous caesarean sections. Author: Megafu U. Journal: Trop J Obstet Gynaecol; 1988; 1(1):86-8. PubMed ID: 12179280. Abstract: To determine the safety of vaginal deliveries in Nigerian women with 2 previous cesarean sections, questionnaires were sent to Mother of Christ Maternity and Jubilee Maternity, maternal mortality was 20%, perinatal mortality 60%, and ruptures uterus 40%. Comparing outcomes involved in elective cesarean sections after 2 previous cesarean sections and those involved in attempted vaginal deliveries reveals for the former group a maternal mortality, perinatal mortality, and ruptured uterus of 0%; the latter group's outcome included a maternal mortality of 13%, perinatal mortality of 37%, and ruptured uterus 19%. Causes of maternal death include ruptured uterus, hemorrhage, and severe septicemia following cesarean section. Vaginal deliveries for women with histories of 2 previous cesarean sections should be discouraged. The safety of cesarean sections should be promoted.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
