Title: Vaginal sterilisation as conception control. Author: Sheth SS, Batliwala P. Journal: J Obstet Gynaecol India; 1968; 18(2):274-5. PubMed ID: 12229319. Abstract: 160 vaginal sterilizations were performed on patients, motivated at outpatient departments where they had come from some gynecologic complaint, at K.E.M. Hospital in India from January 1954 to December 1965. The methods used were Pomeroy's (76), Madlener's (72), and lateral salpingectomy (12). 83% were ages 26-35. 83.7% were para 4 or above. Surgical approach was either from the posterior vaginal wall and pouch of Douglas (152) or through the anterior utero-vesical fold (8). Postoperative complications included spinal headache (27.5%), fever (5.7%), and urinary infection (3.7%). Sterilization was successful in the 45 (28.1%) of the cases followed up. Oligomenorrhea occurred in 28.8% of these cases. Advantages of vaginal sterilization include applicability to a nonpregnant woman, avoidance of abdominal scar, and postoperative course smooth relative to that of an abdominal operation.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
