    Abstract:
    Trends in women's employment in the United Arab Republic and their relationships to childbearing rates was studied. Published statistical data for the period 1957-1967 were used. The ratio of economically active women in the labor force declined from 10.6% in 1957 to 9.5% in 1967; actual numbers of women employed increased by 76,000. Women employed in agriculture declined by 30%, women in the industrial sector declined by 13.8%, and women in the services (teaching, nursing, etc.) increased by 233%. An inverse relationship was found between childbearing and employment.
