  • Title: Many state Medicaid agencies limit payment for abortion, sterilization.
Journal: Fam Plann Popul Rep; 1973 Aug; 2(4):82-3. PubMed ID: 12257657.
    Abstract:
The Center for Family Planning Program Development of Planned Parenthood-World Population conducted a telephone survey in June 1973 of all state Medicaid agencies. It was found that only 20 states and the District of Columbia pay for abortions under Medicaid with no legal or administrative limitations. The other 29 states (Arizona has no Medicaid) make procedural requirements or pay only for abortions necessary to the life of the mother. 3/4 of the states imposed no restrictions for payment for sterilizations. About 1/2 the states pay for procedures performed at public or private clinics separate from hospitals.
