Title: Contraception for the young: legal restrictions. Author: Muir P. Journal: N Z J Fam Plann; 1980; ():11-5. PubMed ID: 12262427. Abstract: The current law governing circumstances under which contraceptives and information regarding contraceptives may be supplied to individuals under 16 in New Zealand is encompassed in the Contraception, Sterilisation and Abortion Act, 1977. This law replaced an earlier Police Amendment Act, 1954. The law of 1954 placed restrictions on the distribution of contraceptives, but had always been liberally interpreted by the police. The sections in the 1954 and those which replaced the earlier sections in the 1977 law are cited. The spirit of the 1977 Act is clearly against the free distribution of information and the letter of the Act has so carefully hedged in all exceptions that the courts and police will not be able to neglect this law as they were able to do with the previous one of 1954.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
