    The author responds to a comment by Premus and Weinstein (see 45: Title 3484) regarding the author's article on nonwhite migration and welfare. He first provides a critique of their corrected model for testing the relationship between nonwhite migration, welfare levels, and the political process. An alternative model that takes into consideration some of the criticisms offered by Premus and Weinstein is then proposed
