  • Title: [New developments in sterility in 1981].
    Author: Belaisch J.
Journal: Contracept Fertil Sex (Paris); 1981 Nov; 9(11):703-4. PubMed ID: 12263490.
    Abstract:
Methods to study sterility have constantly improved during the past years. A sperm count is not considered a good method as a test investigating the power of spermatozoa to penetrate the cervical mucus. Such tests are difficult to conduct, therefore human cervical mucus has been substituted with egg white, cow's cervical mucus, or with chemical substances, but without much success. Other studies have focused on the possibility of penetration of the ovum when deprived of its pellucid membrane, or on early death of embryos. Such tests are almost always carried out on laboratory animals and are very expensive to conduct. Their purpose is to investigate the exact mechanism of sterility to find a precise therapy to overcome the problem.
