  • Title: Fertility decline in India: 1961-70.
    Author: Jalagar VB, Srinivasamurthy K.
Journal: Rural Demogr; 1980; 7(1-2):15-23. PubMed ID: 12264755.
    Abstract:
The objective of the present paper is to study the components which affect the fertility rate in India. It is obvious that crude birthrate has declined from 45 in 1951 to 41 in 1971. A considerable decline is observed in total fertility rate (TFR). Nearly 90% of the total decline in fertility can be attributed to changes in the age structure and marital status. The general fertility rate declined from 182.5 to 164.4 and the TFR declined from 5597 to 5288/1000 women during the same period.
