    Author: Menon MK.
Journal: J Obstet Gynaecol India; 1970 Jun; 20(3):289-97. PubMed ID: 12275251.
    Abstract:
Records of 4864 patients fitted with an IUD during 1967-1970 in India are reviewed. 4582 were fitted with a Lippes loop and 282 with an Antigon. 3188 women were available for follow-up. 570 patients (18%) noted heavy bleeding. The device was removed from 387 women because of bleeding. 170 patients experienced heavy bleeding 4 or more months after insertion. These 170 women underwent curettage. 26.5% of these women showed some type of endometrial abnormality. Of the 107 curetted patients followed-up, only 6 showed no therapeutic effect from the treatment. 4 cases of translocations of the loop are presented in detail.
