Title: Thromboembolism and the pill -- new data. Journal: IPPF Med Bull; 1968; 2(4):2-3. PubMed ID: 12275471. Abstract: Women over the age of 35 are about twice as much at risk of thromboembolism as women under this age. When large numbers of patients are available, a relationship between oral contraceptives and coronary thrombosis may be substantiated. There may also be a small group of serious side-effects outside those affecting the cardiovascular system. Nearly every effective pharmacological agent has a morbidity and mortality when used on a large scale. The pill can be looked at in its social context. For many women there is no alternative form of contraception. It is generally agreed that the clotting changes which do take place are dependent on estrogen; if OCAs contained only progestin, the risk of thromboembolism is likely to be removed.[Abstract] [Full Text] [Related] [New Search]
