  • Title: [Mortality, migratory movements, and age at marriage in the Iberian Peninsula].
    Author: Rowland R.
Journal: Bol Asoc Demogr Hist; 1987; 5(3):41-63. PubMed ID: 12280848.
    Abstract:
The author examines the possibility of using singulate mean age at marriage, as defined by John Hajnal in 1953, for the estimation of models of nuptiality in the Iberian Peninsula. He also evaluates to what extent demographic conditions in the region in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries (relatively severe mortality and high levels of migration in some areas) affected the accuracy of the estimates. Two alternatives are presented that use model populations to compensate for the lack of adequate statistical information.
